4 Signs Your Hyundai Needs New Tires

A trained technician checks over a car's tire.

Considering most don’t make tires for a living or are trained technicians, being able to tell when your Hyundai needs new tires can be a bit tricky. The last thing you want while out driving is one of your tires to fail, it’s important to keep an eye out for certain signs that it’s time to buy new tires (the age, wear, pressure, and any vibration or pulling while driving).

If you’re not sure if it’s time though, our trained technicians at Calgary Hyundai in Calgary, AB, can help. We’ll get you Hyundai tires you can trust, and also provide Tire Changes, Tire Rotation & Balancing, and Tire Storage.

4 Signs Your Hyundai Needs a Wheel Alignment

5 Tips to Improve Your Vehicle’s Fuel Economy

1. Your Tires Are Getting Older

The rubber in tires wears down after years of usage, so even if they aren’t showing visible wear, it’s best to follow the advice to get a new set of tires every 6 to 10 years. How often you drive your Hyundai and in what sort of conditions can affect this range, which is why getting your tires checked by trained technicians can be helpful as they can let you know how your tires are doing and whether or not it’s time for a new set.

2. Your Tires Have Wear and Tear

By checking the depth of the tread grooves on your tires, you can see if they’ve worn down enough to need replacing. Put a quarter in the tread groove with the upside-down caribou facing you. If you can only see the tip of the farthest antler, your tires are getting the traction they need from the grooves and can keep going, but if you can see both of its antlers, this indicates that your tread grooves are shallow and your tires are in need of replacing.

3. Your Tires Don’t Hold Air Pressure Well

Pressurized tires keep them from damaging both the tires and the bottom of your Hyundai, so if your tires don’t hold air pressure well and you constantly seem to be filling them up, it might be time for a new set. Tires can lose air from small holes as well as simply from being worn out, both of which require replacement.

4. Your Vehicle Pulls to the Side or Vibrates While Driving

If you find your Hyundai pulls heavily to one side or the other when you’re driving, or even that it vibrates on a smooth road, it’s a sign of two things: either one of your tires is damaged, or your wheel alignment is off. This is why it’s good to rotate your tires so that the wear on each tire is similar, which gains you more use from your tires before it’s time to get a new set.
