Hyundai IONIQ 5 Achieves GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title for Greatest Altitude Change by an Electric Car

On December 26, 2024, Hyundai Motor Company’s IONIQ 5 earned a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for achieving the greatest altitude change by an electric car. The record-setting feat was orchestrated by Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) in partnership with a professional team from Evo India.

The remarkable journey saw the IONIQ 5 traverse an altitude difference of 5,802 meters, beginning at Umling La in Leh Ladakh—India’s highest drivable point at 5,799 meters above sea level—and concluding in Kuttanad, Kerala, which is situated three meters below sea level. Spanning over 4,900 kilometers, the route was completed in just 14 days, showcasing the vehicle’s capability to endure extreme terrain and climatic conditions, from freezing mountain passes in the Himalayas to the humid coastal regions of Kerala.
