Summer Vehicle Maintenance Tips

5 Tips to Improve Your Vehicle’s Fuel Economy

1. Check Fluid Levels & Condition

Start by checking the level of your fluids, including the condition of certain fluids in case you need a flush:

2. Check Tire Pressure & Condition

When your vehicle and tires are cold (before you turn your vehicle on) check the PSI on all four of your tires, including the spare tire if you have one. Check the tread depth as well using a quarter to make sure they’re getting proper traction. Have the caribou facing you and head down, and insert it into your tire tread. If the tread covers the caribou’s nose, your tires are still good. If you can see the entire caribou, it’s time to get new tires.

3. Check Your Battery

Because colder weather drains batteries quickly, it’s important to check your battery in the spring. Look at the terminals and ensure they’re both clean and have tight connections. Visit our trained technicians to get your battery tested and replaced if needed as well.

4. Get a Brake Inspection

Inspect your brake pads for thickness and any signs of wear. If you hear squealing or squeaking noises when using your brakes, or if you notice it takes longer to brake than normal or that your vehicle pulls to one side when you brake, have your brake system serviced before your road trip.

5. Replace Your Windshield Wipers, if Needed

Road trips in the spring run the chance of driving through both bugs and rainstorms. As such, replace your windshield wiper blades if they are streaking, squeaking, or leaving areas of your windshield wet, so you have full visibility and can keep your windshield properly clean.
